Today on date 7th Sept 2009 with discharge of our youngest surgical patient the Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib (C) Eye Hospital Trust (regd.) Sohana (Eye Institue & Multispeciality Hospital ) team has ushered into the superspeciality of neonatal surgery. The patient Was 22 days old baby operated for hearniotomy & hydrocele sac excission. The patient was successfully operated on 5.9.09 by team of doctor's including Dr. Mani Gupta, pediatric surgeon, Dr. Guneet & Dr. Vikash (anesthesiologist), Dr. Nardeep (neonatologist )and is being discharged in completely Healthy condition without any complication. A part from the doctor's, the credited also goes to the highly skilled OT staff & NICU staff headed by sister incharge Mrs. Susmita Kishore.

Panth Rattan title for 'Veerji' - Thousands attend bhog ceremony

Renowned kirtani Bhai Jasbir Singhji Khannewale who breathed his last on October 14 was awarded the title of 'Panth Rattan', the highest recognition in Sikh community, by Mr Avtar Singh Makkar, President, SGPC, here today. Mr Makkar was among thousands who attended the renowned kirtani's bhog ceremony at Sohana this morning.

Thousands of devotees paid their last respects to Bhai Jasbir Singh who was the founder trustee of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Eye Hospital Trust.

Among those who attended the bhog were Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar Akal Takht, Giani Tirlochan Singh Jathedar Keshgarh Sahib, Giani Balwant Singh Khalsa Jathedar Damdama Sahib, Giani Iqbal Singh Jathedar Patna Sahib.

The bhog ceremony was performed under the guidance of new Chairman of the trust Bhai Devinder Singh. Others who attended the function, included Mr Gurcharan Singh Head Granthi, Darbar Sahib, Mr Jaswinder Singh Giani Darbar Sahib, Mr Jagtar Singh Granthi Darbar Sahib, Mr Paramjit Singh Sarna, President, DSGPC, Mr Sukhdev Singh Bhour General Secretary SGPC; Mr Bir Devinder Singh MLA, Kharar; Mr Balbir Singh Sidhu President District Congress Committee; Mr Simranjit Singh Mann, President, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar; Mr Prem Singh Chandumajra, Mr Hardeep Singh, member SGPC, Mohali, Mr Charanjit Singh Chadha Chief Khalsa Diwan, Mr Ponty Chadha, businessman, Mr Rupinder Singh IAS, Punjab, Mr Harjeet Singh Khalsa Magistrate, Mr Varinder Singh, Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mr Pritpal Singh, President Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib, Ludhiana, Ms Lakhwinder Garcha OSD to CM and Mr Tirlochan Singh, former chairman National Minorities Commission.

Bhai Devinder Singh concluded the ceremony with kirtan. He also addressed the gathering and told the sangat that he would follow the guidelines of 'Veerji' and will fulfill all his dreams. Other personalities who performed kirtan on the occasion are Sant Anoop Singh Unewale, Bhai Harbans Singh Jagadhariwale, Bhai Devinder Singh Riar, Bhai Jaswant Singh, Bhai Tejinder Singh Simlawale, and Bhai Manjit Singh.

The Don Bosco Navjeevan Centre, Sector 24, under the leadership of Father Sebastian Jose , on Wednesday organised a free eye check up camp in association with Sri Guru Harkishan Sahib Charitable Eye Hospital, Sohana, for the underprivileged women and children of the slum areas of Chandigarh. A team of doctors and para-medical staff headed by Mrs Navedita treated 365 patients. About 23 were referred to the hospital for further treatment. Don Bosco Centre will take care of these 23. Medicines, free of cost, were distributed among the patients. Mrs Jean Rodrigues, was also present.

As many as 251 patients were examined at an eye check-up camp organised by the Tribune Youth Club at Tribune Model School, Sector 29 here today.

Doctors Sandeep Jha, Raman Bedi, Dipinder Singh and Sachinder Kaur from Sohana Eye Hospital examined the patients at the camp. Special emphasis was on diagnosis of cataract, glaucoma, vitro-retina treatment and lasik surgery. In addition to eye check-up, ECG tests, blood and urine tests were also done.

Patients suffering from all kinds of acute and chronic pains like backache, old injuries, spondylitis, trigeminal neuralgia etc can visit the hospital. Patients with pain due to end-stage cancer will also be treated.

The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Metis and Non-Status Indians welcomed Bhai Jasbir Singh Khanne Wale to Canada at the Dashmesh Cultural Centre in Calgary, on behalf of the government of Canada and Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Prentice said that this was the most excitement he had seen in Calgary's Sikh community since the days during which the Gurdwara was being built. Mr. Prentice stated that 'in Canada the Sikh community is a respected member of the Canadian mosaic, a respected part of the Canadian family and is a community that has distinguished itself in Canada as a community of caring and loving people. Bhai Jasbir Singh speaks to that tradition of charity, philanthropic commitment to the community and humility,' saying that he is a man from who we all have very much to learn. Mr. Prentice brought greetings from the Right Honorable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, who sent Bhai Jasbir Singh greetings: 'Best Wishes for continued success in all of your humanitarian efforts. Your dedication to public service and your commitment to community serves as an example to us all.'

Mr. Prentice's involvement with Calgary's Sikh community dates back over twenty years, when he played an instrumental role in development of the Dashmesh Cultural Centre. A lawyer by profession, he served as legal counsel on a volunteer basis.

The Sohana Eye and Multi Speciality Hospital has been awarded the quality management system certification ISO 9001:2000 for providing medical services in ophthalmology, dentistry, urology, skin, orthopaedic, general medicine, ear, nose and throat, pediatrics, anaesthesia, general surgery, gynaecology and obstetric patient along with pathological and radiological services.

According to a press note issued by the hospital authorities today, a joint accreditation system of Australia and New Zealand have found the hospital's medical services in line with international requirements as laid down in the latest and revised international quality management system standard ISO 9001:2000.

This was decided after an audit conducted by a team of doctors and quality system professionals. All systems starting with the registration of patient to the satisfaction level of the patient after treatment were checked and found to be as per the requirements of the international standards. The hospital management has stated that by getting certified for ISO 9001:2000, the hospital to become a global benchmark in the field of provision of medical services.

Mr Krishna Mohan, Home Secretary, today appreciated the role of NGOs for doing yeoman's service to the mankind by organising various health camps.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating "free eye check-up camp" at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46-D, here. The camp was organised by the National Association for the Blind (NAB) in association with the Rotary Chandigarh Central.

The Home Secretary also took a round of the camp, where schoolchildren with eye related problems and low visions were examined by a team of doctors from Shri Guru Harkishan Eye Institute, Sohana.

Nearly 700 school children from various government schools attended the camp.
